On 29th Dec. 1170, the martyrdom of Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury, was the most famous event in its history.
Thomas Becket was murdered by four Henry II's knights in his own cathedral.
In the 14th century, Geoffrey Chaucer mentioned the history after this bloody event in his work "Canterbury Tales".
